CHCPRT025: Identify and report children and young people at risk

This course covers performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to identify children and young people who are at risk and report in line with legislative requirements. This work occurs within legislative and policy frameworks and carries a duty of care responsibility.

This unit applies to workers in a range of job roles providing services to children and young people including in community services and health contexts.

Entry Requirements

An individual undertaking this course will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

1. Must meet English and LLN requirements. The Training Package clearly states:

  • Reading – to read and understand forms and to make accurate reports

  • Writing – to accurately record details of children and young people at risk and to make reports using handwritten skills and computer skills

  • Communication – to communicate appropriately and effectively with children and young people who disclose sensitive information

2. Students must have access to a device with camera and audio recording capabilities, such as a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a webcam. This device will be necessary for creating short videos as part of the assessment, in which students verbally explain the required assessment outcomes.

Course Duration

The online learning and assessment is expected to take approximately 5 hours to complete. These timeframes are estimates. Individuals with prior experience in similar training may complete the course in less time, while those new to the subject may need more time to complete all the learning content and assessment questions.

This course is delivered fully online and will be self-paced. Students are expected to complete this course within six (6) months after enrolment

Assessment Activities

Practical assessment: 

  • Students are required to upload two (2) videos of themselves participating in simulated scenarios of a child/ young person at risk

Documentation:

  • Complete two (2) Incident Report forms

Theory assessment:

  • A written assessment consisting of case studies and multiple-choice questions

Please note:  You will be required to make two (2) videos of yourself, verbally explaining the required assessment outcome. If you do not wish to complete video assessment questions, please consider an alternative mode of delivery (E.g. Online with face-to-face assessment).
