This course set is designed to give educators and support staff the skills and knowledge to provide a first aid response to infants, children, and adults in education and care settings. It combines HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education & Care Setting, 22702VIC Course in the Management of Asthma Risks and Emergencies in the Workplace, and 22578VIC Course in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis.

What you will learn:

• Provide first aid for infants, children, and adults in line with ARC guidelines

• Perform CPR on all age groups and use an AED (defibrillator) safely

• Recognise and respond to asthma and anaphylaxis emergencies

• Administer asthma reliever medication and adrenaline auto-injectors (EpiPen)

• Apply action plans for asthma and anaphylaxis in childcare and school environments

• Record accurate incident details and communicate with parents, caregivers, and emergency services

• Review incidents and recognise psychological impacts on children and carers

More Course Information

  • This course set is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults. The course applies to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting where persons may be required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.

  • The following units will be included in your certificate:

    • 22702VIC - Course in the Management of Asthma Risks and Emergencies in the Workplace

    • HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

    • HLTAID010 - Provide basic emergency life support

    • HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid

    • HLTAID012 - Provide First Aid in an education and care setting

    • 22578VIC - Course in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis

  • This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

    • Participants must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.

    • Pre-course study: Students may be required to undertake online pre-course work prior to attending the face to face session depending on the course delivery mode.

    • Online study: Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.

  • Online with Face-to-Face duration: 90 minutes

    • Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

  • Practical demonstrations:

    • Provide adult CPR (incl. the use of an AED)

    • Perform CPR on a child

    • Provide infant CPR

    • Manage a choking child and infant casualty

    • Manage a child casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock, requiring minor wound cleaning

    • Manage a child casualty with a nosebleed

    • Manage a child casualty with a fracture and dislocation

    • Manage a child casualty with a sprain and strain

    • Manage a child casualty with envenomation (snake/ funnel-web spider bite)

    • Administer asthma medication (with a spacer)

    • Administer asthma medication (without a spacer)

    • Administer an adrenaline autoinjector for anaphylaxis

    • Provide first aid for an allergic reaction and anaphylaxis

    Documentation:

    • Complete a First aid/Incident report form

    • Complete a Risk Assessment

    • Complete an Individual Management Plan, which includes a Communication Plan

     Theory assessment:

    • A written exam consisting of multiple choice and short answer questions
